Jessica Marie Knight is an artist working between London and Jamaica.
Jessica has a semi-imaginary frenemy named Anansi, who is an immortal trickster spider with the power to take on human form. Anansi’s hobbies include: photo-bombing; weaving stories, webs & lies; cultivating an enviable hat-collection. Jessica’s hobbies include: researching various forms of exploitation (e.g. human trafficking or Madonna’s use of public snogging to boost her public profile); needle-point; attending exorcisms to rid herself of her pesky alter-ego, Liccorish. Liccorish is Anansi’s imaginary friend who lives inside Jessica’s mind. Generally, when Jessica thinks/does something immoral, it is the pesky Liccorish trying to show off to Anansi.* Liccorish’s hobbies include: drinking rum.
*Indeed, both figures put the ‘ass’ in ‘asterisk’.
When left to her own devices, Jessica draws from her experience in theatre, sculpture and literature to develop her multi-media practice, which sees her merging literary and performative elements with 3-dimensional media (di gyal love sculpt wid claat).
Jessica is currently dividing her time between her studio at Platform Southwark (which is a project space at the intersection of performing and visual arts) and Kingston, where she works alongside Jamaican sculptor Kay Sullivan. Occasionally Anansi tags along for larks, which encourages Liccorish to go on bad-bad.
